Maximum character limit not working on Android

SA-31915

Summary

The character limit set within the presentation tab on a Text Input control is not working on Android like it does on iOS and desktop (browser).

Instead of limiting the input, Android is allowing the user to input any number of characters and then removing the excess characters from the suffix of the input.

Error Messages

Not applicable

Steps to Reproduce

1) Create a Text Input control.
2) Set character limit to 20.
3) Test on Android Mobile.

Root Cause

This issue was determined to be a android specific behavior with standard maxlength <input> attribute.

The very behavior can be observed even on a simple web page.

Resolution

An enhancement request, FDBK-17835, has been created for consideration by Pega Product Management to see if another approach can be used rather than standard maxlength <input> attribute to impose the length constraint for a text field.
