Memory Leak in Case Manager 7

When you launch Case Manager 7, the memory usage for your browser tab is a certain amount. After completing and closing a General Task, the memory usage has increased.

This means that each time you perform a General Task, the memory usage of your tab increases, eventually resulting in decreased performance and degraded user experience.

This occurs in both Chrome and Internet Explorer 9.

Error Messages

There is no error message, but the increased memory usage can result in performance and usability issues.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Visit the CPM QA system Lab 38 ( with Internet Explorer 9 and login with username/password [email protected]/install.
2. Select Launch >> Case Manager 7.
3. Take note of your browser tab's current memory usage (you can use Windows Task Manager or some other tool).
4. Select Create >> General Task.
5. Fill out the required Summary field (with "Test" or any other bit of text).
6. Select the blue Create button.
7. Fill out the required Completion Note field (with "Test" or any other bit of text) and the Actual field with a number.
8. Select the orange Submit button.
9. Select the blue Close button in the upper right.
10. You are now back at the initial Case Manager 7 page. Note that your memory usage for this tab has increased by at least 10 MB.

Root Cause

The root cause of this problem is a defect in Pegasystems’ code/rules.

Certain memory leak is expected with loading and closing of iFrames. With iFrames and with an almost 'stable decrease' per interaction, this can be considered as expected. Based on the test data, the loss of ~1-2MB per interaction (after the first) should be acceptable by the user.
