Negative amounts display extra ( ‘ ) in beginning of the values

When running the out-of-the-box MSOGenerateExcelFile activity, negative amounts display an additional quote symbol (‘) in the beginning of the value.

Error Messages

Not Applicable

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a sample page containing negative values.
  2. Input the sample page to the MSOGenerateExcelFile activity.

Root Cause

This behavior is as per Pega product design.
This applies for all areas where the Export to Excel functionality is achieved using the DCOXLGenerateZipEntryMap Rule Utility Function (RUF).

For example, MSOGenerateExcelFile

Here’s the explanation for the reported behavior:

When text (such as =@SUM(1+1)*cmd|' /C calc'!A0) is entered in any of the input fields, the corresponding cell value in the exported Excel evaluates the formula on double click of that cell by opening the calculator.

Perform the following local-change:

Prepend the single quote (') to the cell value starting with one of the characters such as:  +, -, =, @.

Prepending with single quote (') does not change the cell value. The prepended quote is found only in Excel. The cell value is not altered. The corresponding value in UI after parsing does not contain the single quote.
