Not able to increase the max length of a property

SA-13252

Summary

Currently the maximum length of a property is 12, which the user defined in the Advanced tab. When the user tries to increase the length to 13, the Pega application throws an error.

Error Messages

largest value expected:The value of Expected Size (13) cannot exceed the value of Maximum Length (12).
limits valid length of this property:Because property is exposed in a database column, 13 has been changed to 12 to conform to base property definition. The value of Expected Size (13) cannot exceed the value of Maximum Length (12).

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Copy (Save As) the property in a new version.
  2. In the Advanced tab, modify the maximum length.

Root Cause

As designed and documented in the Help topic, once the property is created, you cannot modify the length of the property to a higher value. However, you can decrease it to a lower value.

Resolution

You cannot modify the length of the property to a higher value once the property has been created and referenced in some rules.
When updating or overriding a property that has a Max Length defined, you can enter a smaller Max Length value but not a larger value.
