The OCXInstaller in Pega 7.1.7 lacks expected controls

Media for the OCXInstaller in Pega 7.1.7 no longer contains the cab file prvisiointerface which was present in earlier releases. There are still some references to this cab in the installation media, and there are a few visual problems on the screen referring to the missing cab.

Root Cause

The use of these OCX functions has been intentionally deprecated by Pega.
There are 4 cab’s that were present in earlier releases that have been removed in  Pega 7.1.7.  They are:
  • Prbatchscanning
  • prDeveloper
  • prpackagecominterface
  • prvisiointerface
Only one of these whose absence might impact in update is The out-of-the-box product contains no references to functions in this cab. There are some leftover general references to the cab itself; however, there will be no impact even though these references are unresolved. These references will be removed in a future update to the product.
There are two Word scenarios requiring that will break if you are porting them from an earlier version of PRPC and is unavailable:
  • Some commonly used Word merge features. If you run into this issue and raise an SR and GCS will provide you with the Silverlight substitution.
  • Some obscure embedded Word features.  If you are already using these features in an earlier release and you discover that you need the cab for this, enter an SR and GCS will unblock it.  It is most likely that you are NOT using these features.
For the remaining three cab files, there are a couple of references to those remaining in the product; however, there is no actual usage of anything contained in the cab. You will not encounter any problems due to the lack of these other 3 cab files. Pega plans to remove those references in a future update.

This issue is resolved by HFix-23107. This unblocks and restores the missing
