Summary

On trying to view attachments attached to a work object, the below error is pop up is displayed:

"Open authoring control failed to load".

Steps to Reproduce

Open any email attachment associated to a work object. 

Root Cause

This issue is observed when:
-> Active X control prOpenAuthoring is not present or an older version exists on the system.
-> Do not run IE in Quirks mode (compatibility mode)

Resolution

Follow the below cleanup routine and reinstall the CabInstaller.zip:

1. Go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files directory in Windows Explorer and delete all the Pega active X controls.
2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files directory using command prompt (cmd.exe) and do a 'dir'. There would be one or more directories named CONFLICT.n (where n=1, 2). Delete the contents of these directories using 'Del Conflict.n'
3. Restart the machine and install the active X controls.

For PRPC 6.x to display UI elements correctly, both Developer and User portals require IE to run Quirks mode (compatibility mode).
