'Open URL in Window' renders blank with multi-document container

SA-63794

Summary

Using multi-document dynamic container with 'Open URL in window' to open an alternate domain, the URL does not work. The tab loads with an empty screen instead of the URL content. The same works in a single document dynamic container.

Error Messages

Error in browser console:
Refused to display 'https://www.xyz.com/?gfe_rd=cr&ei=blz_WMWsEeLI8Afn8JjwBw' in a frame because it set 'X-Frame-Options' to 'sameorigin'.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a Tab Layout
  2. Attach multi-document dynamic container to the Tab layout
  3. Configure a LinkControl to 'OpenURLInWindow'
    - Check the 'Use Alternate Domain' check box
    - Enter '.AnURL' for the 'Alternate Domail URL' field
    - Enter '_self' as the 'Window Name' field in Window Properties

Root Cause

A software use or operation error.

Resolution

Here’s the explanation for the reported behavior:

In multi-document mode, each document is considered as an iframe in the HTML Document Object Model (DOM). Each iframe is a window. The application looks like window within a window structure. So, if a third party website has included same origin policy in their headers, that is, x-frame-options: SAMEORIGIN, then such websites cannot be included as an iframe in the application. This is a web standard to avoid vulnerability attacks.
For single document mode, there are no such iframes available. Hence, the thrid-party website render as expected.
