"Override Sort Function" does not work

A report definition sorted by the numeric portion of the Work ID property does not call the "Override Sort Function" defined on the property during the sorting process. The Default sorting mechanism sorts Work ID properties (EXAMPLE-123) by their text value, which results in EXAMPLE-12345 being considered a lower value than EXAMPLE-234. Using out of the box (OOTB) rules, the column sorts by string value, rather than by the numerical value of the work object numerical ID.

Error Messages

Not Applicable.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a report definition.
  2. Include a text property with format AAA-BBB, where AAA is text and BBB is integer) as one of the columns.
  3. Sort the report based on this property.
  4. Create an override sort function and set it in the above property.
  5. Run the report definition and sort based on this property and observe the outcome.

Root Cause

Report definitions do not use the "Override Sort Function" defined on the property during report generation.

Perform the following local-change:
  1. Modify the Column Source field for the Work ID property to call a function alias which removes the text prefix of the Work ID property and returns an integer.
  2. Select the gear icon coupled to the Work ID property in order to modify the column options.
  3. Specify a control to add the prefix back to the entry in the Column Format field.
