Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create an application with notification for a mobile user.
  2. Send a notification with an open assignment (pop-up window).

Root Cause

This behavior is as per Pega product design.

Resolution

Here’s the explanation for the reported behavior:

Pega Infinity Mobile client is used. There is a change in notifications handling between that client and the previous Mobile Client.

For custom mobile applications that are based on Pega Mobile Client, if the custom mobile application is running in the foreground, notifications are handled by the application. For custom mobile applications that are based on Pega Infinity Mobile Client, notifications are always displayed on the status bar.

For more information, refer to: https://community.pega.com/sites/default/files/help_v82/procomhelpmain.htm#mobile/concepts/mob-push-notifications-mobile-con.htm#Setting_up_push_notifications_in_a_mobile_app

The application running in the foreground means that the application is active. This decision is made to make the notifications less disruptive and more controllable by the users, since both Android and iOS have built-in handling of notifications. A notification is present which displays on the status bar. On clicking this notification, the application opens (or returns to it if it was already running) asking the user if they want to open the new assignment. Previously, the user is only notified through an alert that a new assignment is present and that the user should refresh the list.

Showing the notifications as system-wide makes it possible for users to configure them, with different sounds, screen popping and so on. The user displays the same notification as a whole at the top of the screen after selecting the 'Pop on screen' option in the Notification setting of the application on the device.

Pega Mobile Infinity Client starting from Pega Platform 8.4, does not display the alert which asks the user if the user wants to open the new assignment, since clicking the notification is an action that is deliberate enough to open the assignment in the application. If the user does not want to open the assignment, the user dismisses the notification.
