Remaining character count behaves incorrectly with IE 8

SA-11015

Summary

The remaining character count of a text area control is inconsistent in browser Internet Explorer 8. The browser sometimes calculates the size of a new line character as one instead of two (\r\n).

Error Messages

Not Applicable.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Configure a text area of max size x (say 20) and to show the remaining characters count.
  2. In Internet Explorer 8, at runtime enter some text with new lines so that it fills all the x characters to show the remaining character count as zero.
  3. Now try to enter some more characters and check the remaining character count.

Root Cause

The new line is interpreted as "\r\n" in Internet Explorer browser. Due to this the character count logic is not calculating the remaining characters properly.

Resolution

This issue is scheduled to be fixed in Pega 7.1.9.
