RichTextEditor placeholder text behaves oddly on focus

SA-34134

Summary

User has a screen that has a Rich Text Editor. At runtime this field receives focus first when the page loads, but the placeholder text is not displayed as expected.

Error Messages

Not Applicable

Steps to Reproduce

Create a section with a Rich Text Editor control with placeholder text as the first field:

At runtime, notice that the focus is placed inside the Rich Text Editor field when the screen loads, and the placeholder text does not display.
If the user tabs out of the Rich Text Editor control, it displays the placeholder text.

Root Cause

Pega 7 has implemented the third-party CKEditor tool for the Rich Text Editor.

This appears to be expected behavior with this Rich Text Editor (irrespective of the browser) when it is the first field to receive focus on the form.

Resolution

Perform the following local-change:

In the section where you have the Rich Text Editor control, drag and drop a text input control right above it.

Go to Cell Properties > Presentation > Advanced Presentation Options and specify the Cell inline style visibility:hidden:

Save the section and test your use case at runtime. With the local change applied, the placeholder text is retained when the screen loads with the rich text editor.
