Search omitting expected results

SA-45532

Summary

The Pega all content search is not pulling results as expected.

Users mainly search for work objects based on their project names. As an example, the project name of a particular work object is:
This is a Test for Search

The correct work object is returned if users search for that exact string. However if users search for a partial string, over 20 results are returned and the work object can only be found if "See All Results" is clicked. For example, the following string produces this result:
This is a Test

The results that are returned without clicking on "See All Results" do not have project names that include the string "This is a Test".

Steps to Reproduce

Not Applicable

Root Cause

A software use or operation error. This is expected behavior for all content searches.

Resolution

Here’s the explanation for the reported behavior:

While none of the initial results contain "This is a Test" as a whole string, all content search looks for each word individually, and all returned work objects contain these words.

Furthermore, search results are not sorted for content searches. For this type of requirement, the search string should be enclosed in double quotes so that the results return only exact matches.
