Slow startup on certain nodes in one datacenter

SA-21149

Summary

System Administrators have observed that it is taking more time to restart servers on one of the data centers.

Error Messages

No errors are observed, only longer startup times for nodes in one datacenter.

Steps to Reproduce

Restart PRPC nodes, watch PegaRULES logfiles for startup timing.

Root Cause

A defect or configuration issue in the operating environment.  The affected datacenter is located further away from the DB server, and the startup delay can be attributed to the additional network time.

Resolution

Here’s the explanation for the reported behavior: When the app server is located apart from the DB server (with a significant network delay between data centers), it will take longer to pull information from the database.
