SMA doesn't open, shows JSP error

SA-308

Summary

PRPC with Websphere Application Server (WAS) shows a Java Server Pages (JSP) error instead of the SMA starting page when  the System Management Application (SMA) is opened.

Error Messages

com.ibm.ws.jsp.JspCoreException: JSPG0049E: /jsp/services/SystemManagement_V2.jsp failed to compile
Type mismatch: cannot convert from element type Object to Map.Entry<String,String>

Steps to Reproduce

Open the SMA.

Root Cause

The root cause of this problem is in a third-party product integrated with PRPC.  When deploying prsysmgmt.war, which contains the SMA, on WAS, you can check the "Precompile JavaServer Pages files" option.  If checked, WAS will use a lower version of the JDK to compile JavaServer pages than the SMA needs to run.

Resolution

This issue is resolved through the following local change:
Redeploy the prsysmgmt.war file without the "Precomiple JavaServer Pages files" option checked.  See page 78 on https://pdn.pega.com/documents/prpc-715-installation-guide-for-websphere-on-oracle for directions.
