Summary



SSLHandshakeException when connecting to a REST end point with TLS/SSL.


Error Messages



Unable to connect to resource due to TLS/SSL issue: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: com.ibm.jsse2.util.j: PKIX path building failed: java.security.cert.CertPathBuilderException: PKIXCertPathBuilderImpl could not build a valid CertPath.; internal cause is:
java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException: The certificate issued by CN=DigiCert Global Root CA, OU=www.digicert.com, O=DigiCert Inc, C=US is not trusted; internal cause is:
java.security.cert.CertPathValidatorException: Certificate chaining error



Steps to Reproduce

  1. Configure a REST connector.
  2. Execute the REST connector using an activity.


Root Cause



A defect or configuration issue in the operating environment. Pega application server was missing the end point intermediate and root certificates.


Resolution



Perform the below steps to resolve the issue:
  1. Download the REST endpoint intermediate and root certificates.
  2. Import them in the Websphere cell.
  3. Perform a restart.
