System does not prevent data type creation in PegaDATA schema
Summary
In Pega7.4, data type source behavior configuration is modified and all user defined tables (created through a configured source) are created only in the CustomerDATA schema.
However, the user can create and save the data type in the PegaDATA schema. The system does not prevent the data type creation in the PegaDATA schema or display an error.
Error Messages
Not Applicable
Steps to Reproduce
Create a data table. An option to select the PegaDATA schema is available.
Root Cause
This behavior is as per Pega product design.
Resolution
Here’s the explanation for the reported behavior:
Pega 7.4 initially allowed only the use of CustomerDATA schema. However, this is now relaxed by applying the following hotfixes.
- HFix-48564
- HFix-49803
While configuring the local source, an autocomplete control is present to select the schema. If the schema is set to customerData then the schema is created in the CustomerDATA. If the schema is PegaDATA then it is created in PegaDATA.
Based on the uses of the schema, select the schema as per user requirement.
About CustomerData,
- CustomerDATA schema is used to create non-Pega formatted tables while creating data types in the Pega application.
- CustomerDATA schema stores the data type data and is a BLOB-less structure.
To use a Pega-supplied application and store any non-Pega-specific data in a separate schema, optionally configure a separate CustomerDATA schema in addition to the default PegaDATA schema.
For more information about the CustomerDATA schema, refer to: https://community.pega.com/knowledgebase/documents/pega-platform-81-installation-guide-apache-tomcat-and-postgresql
Additionally, the restriction to select only CustomerDATA when creating a local data storage for data types is relaxed.
In Pega 8.1.3, local storage can be created for data types in the PegaDATA schema.
