Unable to use wildcard characters in workbasket filter

Users would like the ability to use wildcard characters for filter keyword, such as *COR*;*CLC* (COR and CLC are case id prefixes) when they filter work ids in workbaskets. The functionality was working from 6.2 to 7.1.4. After upon migrating to 7.1.6, wildcard characters no longer works.

Error Messages

You observe an unexpected behavior where no result was returned after filtering.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Go to workbasket/worklist
  2. Select filter on Case ID, in the editable field enter <%*ADM*;*CLC*%> any case id prefix in the following format.
  3. Click Enter.
  4. Observed no records were shown.
  5. Expected records whose case id has ADM or CLC to be listed.

Root Cause

This is an expected behavior of the filter functionality in PRPC. The usage of wildcard character is escaped to avoid SQL injection risk.

The out of the box (ootb) filtering functionality does not allow customization on how the filtering is done. It is very specific in its function. This intended design is best addressed with custom search instead of using ootb filter.

Another suggestion is to create a new column of category which will allow your business user to choose case ids based on the category.
