Windows resize causes rendering issues, eventual crash

SA-3622

Summary

Manually resizing a pop-out rule window, specifically in this case a function alias rule, causes the browser to hang and crash after it goes non-responsive. I have noticed this behavior in any new-window rule that has a large text entry box. In this case, the 'source' box in the function alias. The rule I first noticed this in is an out of the box function alias, pxBalance.

Error Messages

Internet Explorer has stopped responding

Steps to Reproduce

-Open the pxBalance rule
-Try to manually resize the window diagonally

This has happened in both IE8 and IE10. I did not try IE9. Pop out rules are not compatible with other browsers, so I could not try there.

Root Cause

The root cause of this problem is a defect in Pegasystems’ code/rules. The autoformatting code for the pop-out window has some sort of resource leak that leads to IE locking up.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in Maintenance Level (ML) release 7.1.7.
