WorkUser portal rendering issues after upgrade from 5.5 to 7.1.5

SA-6420

Summary

After upgrading an application from 5.5 to 7.1.5, it is noticed that there are many rendering issues. This application, is still using the older fixed portals from 5.5. None of the UI or rules have been upgraded to Pega 7 code or even composite portals. This means we are not using the HTML5 doc type which is normally the default for a true Pega 7 application.

Without a doc type, IE should be running this application in Quirks mode, but it is not.
All of these issues go away if you manually toggle compatibility view which will switch the rendering mode to Quirks.

Why do we need to manually toggle compatibility view? We did not need this in our 5.5 environment.

Error Messages

N/A

Steps to Reproduce

Move application from 5.5 to 7.1.5

Root Cause

The root cause of this problem is misconfiguration in the new application server environment.

Resolution

The application server admins had implemented a custom servlet filter which was changing the HTTP response header so that IE was forcing standard mode. This was removed to resolve the issue.
