WrapText is not working for elements in Grid Control

Summary



Text data in a grid cell is not getting wrapped and instead the cell expands to accomodate the entire long text data value. This is causing screen content to grow wider and user has to use the horizontal scroll bar to see contents on right side.

Error Messages

Text data in a grid cell is not getting wrapped and instead the cell expands to accomodate the entire long text data value. 

Steps to Reproduce



1. Create a Grid in a section.
2. Select "WrapText" for cell elements.
3. Enter long data values for the elements,


Root Cause



The root cause of this problem is a defect in the customer application code/rules.
The long text data value that the customer is trying to test is e.g. "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"
. This is not a valid word in English language.


Resolution



The explanation for this behavior is as follows:

If your grid layout does not use  “px-fixed” width AND you have HFIX-4254, then you will ONLY see Multi-word string values wrapped like below. You will not see single long string values wrapped.




The long text data value e.g. "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" is not a valid word in English language. Having understood this, if you still need to get single long string values wrapped, you need to configure your grid to use “px-fixed” width.
