How to view system-wide usage statistics
Summary
Administrators may find the need to view usage statistics. For example you may want to review usage statistics when you are experiencing performance issues. You can view usage statistics in the following areas:
- the System Usage History report
- the Usage Statistics report
- the Tracing and Logging page
NOTE: You must have the System Administrator access role to access these functions.
Usage statistics are:
- Collected hourly and when a requestor terminates a session
- Stored in the
pr4_log_usagetable

Viewing Usage Statistics from the System Usage History report
The System Usage History report displays usage statistics for the past 13 months, including up-to-date data for the present month. This report may be used by sites to verify license agreement compliance. View the System Usage History report as follows:
- Select the Dashboard gadget and expand the Monitor Systemfor <username> section in the Workspace.
- Click System Console to display the System Console window.
- Under Administration, click System Usage History to display the System Usage History report:
The report has two rows for Named Users and two rows forInvocations. This distinction is determined in the Operator ID record (or records) being used to access the system. On the Security tab, the License Type field contains a drop-down to choose between these two types:
- Named users use the Process Commander application on a regular basis. Each user has a unique Operator ID (Data-Admin-Operator-ID instance) and creates and processes some form of work item.
- Invocations measure users who invoke the system through one ID or an external system. For example, application users may use Process Commander infrequently (such as a company suggestion box), where all the accesses would be through one ID.
The System History Usage report then takes these two groupings and breaks them down further:
Report Category | Description |

Regular Named Users | Named users actively logged in during any four clock hours or more during any day of the month. The hours do not have to be consecutive. A named user is also included in this count if they have Allow rule check out? checked in their Operator ID record, and logged in at least once during the month. Such named users are included in the count no matter how many hours they have spent working in the system. |
Occasional Named Users | Named users actively logged in for less than four hours during any day of the month. |
BPM Invocations | A count of invocations where a flow rule is executed. |
Rule Invocations | A count of invocations where no flow rule is executed. |
Users in Peak Hour | The maximum number of concurrent users during the month. This count shows the maximum number of users who were signed on during any one-hour period in the month. |
Viewing Usage Statistics from the Usage Statistics report
The Usage Statistics report displays usage information for a specific user. Display the Usage Statistics report as follows:
- Select the Administer gadget and expand the Organization section in the workspace:
- Click Usage Statistics to display the Usage Statistics report:
Viewing Log Usage Statistics from the Logging and Tracing report
The Log Usage Statistics report generated from the Logging and Tracing function displays usage information for a specific machine. It provides a permanent, cumulative history of past system usage, across all nodes and all requestor types. Analyzing this data can provide valuable insights about the patterns and sources of processing demand, and can be helpful in performance tuning. View the Log Usage Statistics report as follows:
- Select the Dashboard gadget and expand the Monitor Systemfor <username> section in the Workspace.
- Click System Console to display the System Console window:
- Under Administration, click Logging & Tracing.
- Scroll down to locate the Log Usage Statistics section:
- Change the field information as necessary and click View to display the Log Usage Statistics:
You can examine the Log-Usage class form to understand the contents of the report.
To customize the report, access the Rules by Type Explorer and select Reports > Summary View. Select to display the summary view report instances, and then select the BrowseUsageStatistics rule:
Override the standard rule. In your copy, complete the following sections on the Content tab:
- Criteria – complete the fields in this section to create one or more selection criteria. Process Commander converts this information into a SQL WHERE clause.
- Prompt Settings – select the appropriate checkboxes to determine if prompts are to be displayed during report generation and if specific information will appear on the report.
- Group by – determines how your report is grouped. For example, one section may be grouped by users and another grouped by host name.
- Fields – the information to be displayed on the report.
- Report Source – the source of the information that appears on the report, as well as the name of the clipboard page on which this information resides.
- Security – restricts access to the report.
