Assessing your on-premises application for migration

This content applies only to Cloud environments.

As part of migration preparation, you must thoroughly review your on-premises installation, to assess where you will need to make upgrades and changes.  Gather comprehensive information details about your application – application versions, number of users, types of Pega work flows, and so on.

To assist in this assessment, Pega provides the Client Cloud Migration Gap Assessment Worksheet, which lists all the information to be gathered, and highlights out-of-date functionality.   For your application review, complete the Application Analysis and the Integration Rules sheets of this worksheet.

Gathering Application Information

As shown in the Worksheet, application information to gather before a migration includes:

  • A count of application agents
  • The list of RuleSets included in the Application Ruleset Stack
  • A Total User Count – how many users are defined in the system
  • A Concurrent User Count – how many users generally use the system at once

Complete the Application Analysis tab in the Assessment Worksheet.

To help you complete the Client Cloud Migration Gap Assessment Worksheet, Pega recommends using the Pega Cloud Readiness Tool.

The Pega Cloud Readiness Tool identifies application and database customizations that might need remediation to comply with Pega Cloud Services standards.

Determine Guardrail or Compliance Score

You can assess the overall quality of your Pega application using the Compliance Score tool, which Pega provides to automate the analysis of a variety of measures: your application’s use of custom Java code and deprecated rule types, which often leads to upgrade difficulties, the existence of performance warnings in your applications, and more.

The result, a compliance score ranging from 0 to 100, provides an executive-level summary of whether your application is guardrail-compliant. A compliance score of 100 means that your application is guardrail-compliant and will be easiest to upgrade; a score approaching 0 means your application has many areas to update before you will be able to upgrade the software. The compliance score tool highlights the problem areas that need to be addressed before you can upgrade to the latest Pega Platform version.

After you run the tool, find your compliance score using these steps:

  1. In the header of Dev Studio, click Configure > Application > Quality > Guardrails > Compliance Score.
  2. In the Compliance score section, review your weighted score. See Analyzing a Compliance Score.

IMPORTANT:  A compliance score of over 90 is required before migration.
