PEGA0104 alert: Background tasks have exceeded a threshold time when attempting to acquire a thread from pool or executor

The PEGA0104 alert is generated when some background tasks have exceeded a threshold time during an attempt to acquire a thread from the agent’s thread pool executor. The alert might occur consecutively every 120 seconds. If the alert recurs every 120 seconds, the thread pool size is insufficient or the number of background processing tasks is unexpectedly high. This might prevent agents from running according to the schedule or the background tasks might take longer to resolve than the acceptable time.

Example message text

Long waiting background tasks detected. Number of waiting items: <number>; waiting time of the oldest item: <number>  seconds.

The next step

Perform one of the following actions:

  • Increase the size of the thread pool executor by configuring the agent/threadpoolsize value in the prconfig.xml file.
  • Analyze the use of the queuebatchactivity method in your application.
  • If the application does not have strict Service Level Agreements, update the permissibleWaitTime parameter of the background tasks by configuring the alerts/longwaitingbatchrequests/permissibleWaitTime value in the prconfig.xml file. The permissibleWaitTime parameter is expressed in seconds.
