Enhance the case processing experience in Theme Cosmos applications (8.6)

Applications that you build on Theme Cosmos 3.01 or later introduce significant improvements to the case processing interface. The chief among them are the case preview enhancements, flexible screen space management, an improved search experience, and the ability to open and work with several independent sessions of your web application.

The preview panel displays the most valuable information about a case, for example, the status and assignees, and makes it possible to process assignments directly from the panel. Furthermore, the preview takes only a portion of the screen, which helps you reduce context switching and effortlessly alternate between different previews to quickly check relevant data without losing your current work.

The preview panel groups information in tabs. For example, a banking application might include Attributes or Engagement policy as preview tabs. If some of the tabs don’t fit the display, a horizontal scrollbar helps you navigate to them. Additionally, to clearly indicate whether a tab needs attention, the design also supports item counts on each tab, such as on the Treatments tab in the following example:

The tabs also retain their scroll position even if you switch from one tab to the next and back again. The header always stays at the top, so that you do not lose the context of the preview and can always conveniently interact with the tabs and other elements of the header. Moreover, the markup behind the tabs is fully accessible and helps your application conform to the industry's Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).

In addition to the tabs, the preview panel includes a To do section in which you can complete assignments directly from within the preview. For example, if you are viewing a list of requests and decide to preview one, you can supply the necessary information and move the request to the next stage without opening it and losing the context of the list.

You can also learn more about the life cycle of the case if you click its current stage in the preview panel. The panel then displays an overlay with all the stages and their steps to give you a more complete insight into the case.

Apart from the new preview panel, the summary and utility panels are now collapsible. If you collapse the summary panel, the tabs move up to the top of the page and line up horizontally to give you more screen space, for example, for reading larger lists more conveniently. If you collapse the utility panel to recover even more space, it stays collapsed for any new item that you open on the current tab.

Another enhancement to the user experience is an improved search experience. Results are now displayed in a new browser tab to preserve your current work and help you switch between the results and your work more efficiently. You can further customize and filter the results too, for example, by status or type.

Lastly, you can now launch your Cosmos application in any way you want. Whether you start at the home page, follow a link, or use bookmarks, new tabs or windows no longer refresh one another. As a result, you can keep referencing or cross-checking several work items at a time without sacrificing one context for another and losing current work. Additionally, table settings are maintained for the duration of the session. For example, if you apply filters and sorting to a list, and then open a new document, the application retains the table settings when you navigate back to the page by clicking the browser back button.
