You can associate an array of text names and values with any unlocked rule, and later search for rules that contain a specified name and value pair. You can upload a file and associate it permanently with the value.
This facility has a wide range of possible uses to support developers. The field name and field values are arbitrary, and may identify a theme, a change order number, a person who requested the change, and so on. The uploaded file may contain design notes, a debugging log, or other information.
After they are added, custom fields with text values ordinarily appear on the header area of a rule form, with names to the left and values to the right.
Using the Edit Custom Fields button, any developer who can update a rule can change the value of existing custom fields (but may not add or delete fields).
To locate rules in the Decision category that have one or more custom fields define, select View > Rules > Find by a Custom Field.
From the History tab of a rule (in update mode), developers can add or delete Custom Fields directly.
When you use the Rule from File wizard, the uploaded file becomes a Custom Field value.
Custom fields are not available for Data- objects.
