Back Forward Integrated Work Manager

The optional Integrated Work Manager (IWM) capability allows users to create work, find and complete assignments, review reports, and interact in one portal window that provides a consolidated presentation of multiple applications from multiple separate Process Commander systems.

NoteDon't confuse the Integrated Work Manager — a product that provides unified multisystem access — with the unrelated WorkManager portal, a standard portal rule for line managers.

This facility eliminates the need for users to sign on separately to each Process Commander system and review separate worklists. It allows IT departments to develop and deploy multiple separate applications without planning in detail the order of RuleSets in a single central system.

By consolidating information and enforcing the security, prioritization, and other rules in each separate Process Commander system, the Integrated Work Manager allows the applications to evolve separately. The applications can be hosted by separate servers (or clusters), yet IWM allows users to sign on once and access all their assignments from a single browser window.

IWM imposes few restrictions or requirements for coordination of application designs. Distinct work object types are identified by distinct work object prefixes.

IWM uses SOAP messaging to share data among the systems. Consolidated worklists are presented in a composite portal.

The IWM server itself uses the Pega-WorkManager RuleSet. To review a consolidated worklist, search for work, or perform GetNextWork searches, or perform assignments, application users must include the Pega-WorkSource RuleSet in their profile. The participating systems are known as work source systems.

IWM is primarily a means to provide functional consolidation of applications and single sign-on, not a strategy for improving performance through distributed hardware resources.

IWM is one of four products in the Federated Business Frameworks. IWM requires V5.4SP3 or later. For more information, see Pega Developer Network article PRKB-25632 About the Integrated Work Manager.
