About Activity rules

An activity rule has two key parts.

Type

Select Activity from the Technical category.

Applies To

Identify the class that this rule applies to. If your activity is to be used in a flow rule, identify a work type (the Work- class or a class derived from the Work- base class).

The classes you can enter here may depend on the RuleSet you select. On the Restrictions tab of the Class form, a class rule may limit rules applying to that class to belong to one of an explicit list of RuleSets.

Activity Name

Enter a name for this activity, starting with a letter and containing only alphanumeric and dash characters. Choose a name that is unique within the Applies To class. The name must be a valid identifier; see How to enter identifiers.

CautionThe length of the class name plus the length of the Activity Name cannot exceed 128 bytes.

Optional. To speed the completion of the form in special cases, you may choose one of these template activities to copy as a starting point:

  • Locate — Sets the Activity Type.
  • OnChange — Sets the Activity Type and adds a Property-Set method.
  • Route — Sets the Activity Type and adds three Property-Set steps.
  • Trigger — Sets the Activity Type.
  • Utility — Sets the Activity Type and a Property-Set step.
