Composite portal

A composite portal is a user portal defined by a collection of harnesses that each references a panel set. Each harness defines a space — an entire portal window.

On the Skins tab of the Portal form, the Type value Composite identifies a composite portal.

PRPC includes sample composite portals: User, Manager, pyCaseManager and pyCaseWorker. Compared with the traditional portals (WorkManager and WorkUser), composite portals offer these advantages:

• Ease of customization. Areas of the portal are defined by harnesses and sections, rather than by gadgets.
• Allows workers and managers to have multiple work items open at once.
• Greater flexibility in layout and behavior.
• For users who create work in multiple applications, switching occurs at the application level, not at the individual work pool level.
• Application users can search for work items using full-text search.
• Supports Internet Explorer 7+, Firefox 3.5+, Safari 4+, and Chrome 5+ browsers.
• Allows use of advanced controls and layouts including Menu Bars and Grids.
• More easily localizable.
• Simplifies creating accessible applications for users employing assistive devices.
• Customizable favicon, by overriding the HTML fragment rule pyPortalIcon to reference a binary file rule containing an ICO-formatted image.
