Report Definitions

The Chart Editor lets you specify the details of a chart to display to illustrate the data in a Report Definition report.
You can access the Chart Editor from the Charts tab of a Report Definition rule form, or from the Report Editor in the Reporting landing page.
Using the controls on the left side of the Chart Editor, select a chart and a type from the options for the chart you selected. There are seven chart templates; use the left and right navigation bars to display all the charts. Each chart has several types.

The Settings area in the middle of the Chart Editor has three sections. Click the button below the "Settings" title to see the three options to select.
The fields that appear vary depending on the chart type selected, but include the following:
Field Description 3D If this checkbox appears, check it to provide the chart in both 3D and 2D formats. Users can switch back and forth between the displays. Chart Size Select from Small, Medium, Large, or Custom. If yo select Custom, additional fields appear where you can specify the height and width of the chart in pixels. Text Format Select from Bold, Bold Italic, Italic, and Regular. If you make no selection, the system sets the format to Regular.
In the field to the right, set the font size.
Category Format Select a format for the values that display in the X-axis of the chart, or in the value displays of segments of a pie chart. Number Format Select from General, Decimal, Currency, Percent, or Custom.
If you select Custom, or if you click the chevron to the right of the field after making another selection, the Number Format Options table appears. Here you can set:
- Scale — select Number or Time.
- Decimal Places — Indicate the number of decimal places to display. Options include specified values, Auto, and All.
- Force Decimals? — Check this checkbox to force the values into decimal format.
- Prefix — For the data (Y) axis of charts, provide an optional prefix for values.
- Suffix — For the data (Y) axis of charts, provide an optional suffix for values.
- Separators — For the data (Y) axis of charts, provide the punctuation used in large numbers(such as 100,000 or 100.000).
X-Axis Label For bar, column, line, and area charts, provide or edit the label for the X axis. Y-Axis Label For bar, column, line, and area charts, provide or edit the label for the Y axis. Show Labels Depending on the chart, check checkboxes to display labels for:
- Data. When you check this checkbox, further options appear:
- Placement: select Outside, or Callout
- Include Value: Check this checkbox to include the value of the data segment.
- Include Name: Check this checkbox to include the name of the data segment.
- Data Tooltip: Check this checkbox to have a data tooltip appear when the user hovers over the segment.
- X-Axis

- Data Tooltip when the user hovers over a data point or data segment
Show Grid Lines For charts where it is relevant, check the checkboxes to display horizontal grid lines, vertical grid lines, or both. Width Ratio For column or bar, what proportion of the chart is used for data, compared to what part is left clear to make the data more readable. This is an ideal number, that may not be attained depending on the data the chart is attempting to display. Line Drop Shadow For line, check this checkbox to display a drop shadow with each chart line. Line Weight For line, set the thickness of chart lines in pixels. Show Legend Check this checkbox to display a list of the colors used in the chart, with the data columns they represent. Legend Direction Select Horizontal or Vertical. Legend Placement Select Bottom or Right.
Field Description Show Maximize Button Check this checkbox to display a control that allows the user to access a large version of the chart. Show Data Button For charts embedded in sections, check this checkbox to display the data button. When the user clicks this button the data supporting the chart appears in a new window. Open in New Window For charts embedded in sections, this checkbox governs whether, when the "Data" button (see above) is clicked, the data display appears in a new window. Show Slider For line, column, bar, and area charts, you can specify a slider. The slider lets the user zoom in and out to see the whole chart or some segment of it by moving two sliders along a track.
If you check the Show Slider checkbox, further fields appear where you specify:
- Title — the title that appears over the slider, such as "Date Range".
- Size — The vertical or horizontal length of the slider (depending on the chart type) in pixels. Defaults to 200.
- Group Count — Set the value where the right-side slider control appears when the chart first displays. The user can then adjust the location of both sliders. The left-side slider appears at the left-most position on the scale.
Use the Chart Preview to identify report data and settings
The Chart Preview is a design tool to help you quickly assign data columns from the report to the axes and other properties the chart requires.
At the top of the Chart Preview are three fields where you create and format the chart title. Provide, in order:
The main area of the Chart Preview presents a stylized image of the selected chart type. Beside and across the image are several targets, indicated by rectangles formed by dashed lines. Drag properties or calculations from the Property Explorer at left, or columns from the report below, to the appropriate target:
To preview the chart, click the Save & Preview button at the top right. You can do this as often as you wish during the chart development process.
Controls at bottom of the Chart Editor
Apply your changes by clicking Apply. Abandon your changes and close the Chart Editor by clicking Cancel. Remove the chart from the report by clicking Remove Chart.
