Help: Using the Class Inheritance display

Reading the diagram

The class you referenced when starting the display appears at the bottom of the display. Numbered arrows indicate the order in which the system searches ancestor classes during rule resolution, and the reasons for each search.

• A solid black arrow () indicates a directed inheritance relationship. The arrowhead identifies the immediate parent class.
• A dashed arrow () indicates a pattern inheritance relationship. The arrowhead identifies the pattern parent class, the class that appears in the Parent Class to Inherit from (Directed) field on the Basic tab of the Class form.
• A solid blue arrow () indicates that a class is searched because of a pattern inheritance relationship, but is also searched because that class name appears in the Parent Class to Inherit from (Directed) field on the Basic tab of the Class form.

If you start the Class Inheritance display for a rule with an Applies To key part (rather than a class), the current rule appears in the diagram with the icon. Any rule in an ancestor class with common key parts (excluding the class) also appears. The current rule overrides any other rules of that name that appear.

For example, if your start the Class Inheritance display for a property named MyCo-Finance-Loan.Limit, other properties in ancestor classes named Limit appear. The current Limit property overrides the Limit properties in ancestor classes.

Interacting with the diagram

Use these controls to interact with the Class Inheritance diagram.

Control	Description
()	Click any shape (rectangle) to open the corresponding class or rule form in the portal workspace.
Navigation
	Use the arrow buttons and the home button to move the display within the window.
	Use the magnifying glass buttons to expand (zoom into) or contract (zoom out from) the display.
Print	Click  Print   to print this diagram.
