An attachment type is a shorter name that identifies a data class that holds work item attachments.
As initially installed, PRPC includes six attachment types, corresponding to six subclasses of the Data-WorkAttach- class:
Don't confuse the attachment type, which determines the media and format, with attachment categories, which can describe the purpose or contents of an attachment in business terms. Using attachment category rules, you can restrict access to attachments based on privileges, when conditions, and attachment types.
File attachments may be stored in the PegaRULES database, or optionally in an external Enterprise Content Management system (ECM), accessed by a Connect CMIS rule, if configured and activated through a check box on the Application rule. When PRPC is first installed, each of the standard attachment types is supported by a corresponding attachment category. For example, the ScanDocument type is supported by the ScannedDocument category. These default categories allow users with unrestricted access to its respective type.
You can create category rules that apply to your application's work classes to define access privileges for one or more attachment types.
