Checking out a rule

To check out a rule, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Check out. A copy of the original or base rule is placed in your personal ruleset. All other users are blocked from checking out this rule until you check in your changes.

    Modify the rule as appropriate.

  2. Click Save. Your changes are saved into the checked-out version and are visible only to you. When you run rules in your application, they resolve to your checked-out version.

  3. Check in the rule by completing the following steps:

    1. Click Check in to replace the base rule with the version in your personal ruleset. If approval is not required, your changes immediately affect rule resolution and run-time behavior for all users.

    2. Enter a comment that describes the changes you made.

    3. If your application is enabled for Project Management tracking and a communication link is active between an instance of the Project Management Framework, select a PMF item from the Project item list and enter a comment.

    4. Click Check in.

When you check the rule in, you replace the base rule with the version in your personal ruleset. If approval is not required, your changes immediately affect rule resolution and run-time behavior for all users.

You do not have to check in your changes immediately. You can log out and return to a checked-out rule later or click Discard to remove the rule from your personal ruleset.
