Create a new field value by selecting Field Value from the Data Model category.

In many cases, after specifying the Applies To and Field Name fields, you can use the  Quick Create   button to speed the creation of your new field value.

A field value has three key parts:

Field

Description

Applies To

SmartPromptSpecify the class that this field value applies to.

The classes you can enter here may depend on the RuleSet you select. On the Restrictions tab of the Class form, a class rule may limit rules applying to that class to belong to one of an explicit list of RuleSets.

Field Name

SmartPromptSpecify the name of a subset of values. Usually this is name of a Single Value property in the class that you specified in the Applies To field. Do not enter a leading period.

Field Value

Optional. Enter a literal constant that is an acceptable value for the property, using only letters, digits, single spaces, and a dash character. The values you enter here may appear in a selection list or other aspects of the application user interface, so choose text that is meaningful to your user community.

NoteEnter no more than 64 characters. If the Applies To and Field Name key parts together identify a Single Value property that has a Maximum Length value less than 64, that limit applies.

For general information about the New form, see Completing the new rule dialog box. For general information on the Save As form, see How to enter rule keys using Save As.

Quick Create option

If you don't wish to enter values into the Localized Label tab or the History tab, click Quick Create rather than Create after completing the New dialog. The system creates the field value but does not present the Field Value form.

Rule resolution

When searching for field values, the system:

Time-qualified and circumstance-qualified rule resolution features are not available for field value rules.
