Every new flow has a single Start shape , an Assignment shape, and an End shape. The Start shape begins every execution of the flow. Each flow can have only one Start shape.

Changing the name of the Start shape

The Start shape (like the End shape) does not have a name by default. You can add a name by clicking below the Start shape and typing the shape name, or by using the properties panel. To change a named Start shape:

1. Click once to highlight the Start shape name.
2. Type the new name, then click Enter, or click elsewhere on the canvas.

Editing Start properties

1. On the flow Diagram tab, open the properties panel using one of the following:

• Double-click the Start shape.
• Right-click the shape and select Properties from the drop-down menu.
• Click the shape, then click the toolbar View Properties icon .

2. When the Start properties panel appears, complete edits as described in the table below.

3. Optionally, enter a text name for this shape.

4. Click OK or click anywhere off the shape to save edits and close the panel.

Completing the Start tab

Complete the Start tab as described below. The following table shows fields available for regular flows. If this flow is a screen flow, special rules apply. See Flow Rules — Editing in Process Modeler — Creating and Editing a Screen Flow.

Field	Description
Start Properties
Application	Optional. Select the name of the application that you want to link to this shape. The value of this field is referenced with the flow diagram in application documents.
Work Type	Optional. Select the name of the work type for the application that you want to link to this shape. The value of this field is referenced with the flow diagram in application documents.
Specification	Optional. Select the name of the specification for the application and work type that details the implementation requirements for this shape. The value of this field is referenced with the flow diagram in application documents and on the Implementation tab of the corresponding Application Specification.

Completing the Status tab

Complete the Work Status field under the Status tab to set the status for the work item. This allows you to easily change the status at multiple points in the life cycle of a work item without adding a Utility shape to the flow for each status change. Similar to setting work item status using a Utility shape, setting the status on this tab invokes the UpdateStatus activity. Any defined tickets dependent on the status are raised, as appropriate.

Work Status	Optional. You can set the status for the work item here. The selected status updates .pyStatusWork.

Previewing the New Harness

Click the Start shape, then click the on the toolbar to preview the New harness associated with the Start shape.

The New harness does not appear at the Start shape during flow executions if the Skip create harness checkbox (on the Process tab of the flow) is checked. Flows created by the Application Accelerator have Skip create harness initially selected.
