Checking out a rule to a branch

To check out a check in a rule to a branch, complete the following steps:

  1. Click Check out to branch or click Check out and select Check out to branch. This option appears only if you have branch rulesets.

  2. From the Branch list, select a branch and click Check out to branch.

  3. Modify the rule as appropriate.

  4. Click Save. Your changes are saved into the checked-out version of the rule and are only visible to you. When you run rules in your application, they resolve to your checked-out version.

  5. Check in the rule by completing the following steps:

    1. Click Check in to replace the base rule with the version in your personal ruleset. If approval is not required, your changes immediately affect rule resolution and run-time behavior for all users.

    2. Enter a comment that describes the changes you made.

    3. If your application is enabled for Project Management tracking and a communication link is active between an instance of the Project Management Framework, select a PMF item from the Project item list and enter a comment.

    4. Click Check in.

When you check the rule in, you replace the base rule with the version in your personal ruleset. If approval is not required, your changes immediately affect rule resolution and run-time behavior for all users.

You do not need to check in your changes immediately. You can log out and return to a checked-out rule later or click Discard to remove the rule from your personal ruleset.

If you discard the checked-out rule, the copy of the original (source) rule created by the system in the branch ruleset remains in the branch ruleset.
