Output Templates
Completing the Create or Save As form

An Output Template rule has four key parts:

Field	Description
Name	Enter a name for the Output Template rule in the short description field. Tab or click the mouse pointer outside the field to populate the value for this key in the Identifier field..
Destination Type	Select between File and DB.
Issue	Select the Issue for storing the Output Template rule. Leave this value unselected to create the rule at the Top level.
Group	Select the Group for storing the Output Template rule. Leave this value unselected to create the rule at the Issue level.

Notes on Issue and Group usage

• In the Save As form, the system pre-populates Issue and Group values based on the corresponding values for the original Output Template rule.
• Issue and Group serve as logical abstractions for the class where the Output Template is stored. See Using Issues and Groups to store rules.

Completing the Destination section

Specify the details for the desired output location (file or database table) of this Output Template rule. The system presents appropriate fields in this section based on your selection for Destination Type. You can also enter/update these values in the Definition tab.

Database

Field	Description
Database	Specify the name of the Database rule (Data-Admin-DB-Name) pointing to the database where the system will write output records for this Output Template.
Table	Enter the name of the table where the system will write the output content for this template.

Rule resolution

Full rule resolution applies to Output Template rules. When searching for Output Templates, the system:

• Filters candidate rules based on a requestor's RuleSet list of RuleSets and versions
• Searches through ancestor classes in the class hierarchy for candidates when no matching rule is found in the starting class
• Finds circumstance-qualified rules that override base rules
• Finds time-qualified rules that override base rules
