Configuring a Campaign

While the Campaign is in the configuration mode, it displays the following three tabs:

 

Using the Plan tab

The Plan tab consists of the following sections, each of which is described subsequently:

Campaign details

Use this section to specify the following details about your Multi-Channel Campaign:

Field

Description

Name Required. Enter a unique name for your Campaign.

Note The Campaign's name must be unique across the system. The name must also begin with a letter and shouldn't contain any special characters (except spaces and underscores).

Issue Select an Issue under which to categorize this Campaign.
Group Select a Group under which to categorize this Campaign.
Business objective Enter the objectives for this Campaign.
Context

Select the audience type which the campaign targets. By default, you can target the campaign at Customers or Prospects. You can define additional Customer populations, for example, Accounts, to better reflect the context of the campaign. For more information, see Context Dictionary landing page.

Note The value selected for this field determines the items available for selection in the Audience and Marketing strategy sections in the Build tab.

Campaign type Enter a type for this Campaign.
Key code Enter a marketing key code to identify this Campaign.
Campaign image Select an image to associate with the Campaign. This image is displayed in the card for the Campaign on the Campaigns landing page.
Priority Select a value for the Campaign's priority. Choose from Immediate, High, Medium, and Low.
Planning start date Specify the start date for the planning phase of this Campaign.
Planning end date Specify the end date for the planning phase of this Campaign.
Launch date Specify the anticipated launch date of this Campaign.
End date Specify the expected end date of this Campaign.
Ignore global exclusion list Enable this check box to ignore the exclusion list while processing Offers for this Campaign.

Note This option is only available to authorized users when the audience type is customer.

Note The Campaign's name, issue, and group settings cannot be changed once it has been created.

Financials

Use this section to specify the following Campaign details:

Field

Description

Budget Specify the overall budget for this Campaign.
Forecasted expenses Specify the anticipated expenses for this Campaign.
Expected audience size Specify the number of customers expected to be targeted by this Campaign.

Goals

Use this section to select goals for your Campaign and specify their target values. Use the Add goal link to add new goals. Use the delete icon to remove an existing goal.

Each goal corresponds to a key performance indicator (KPI) configured on the Visual Business Director landing page.

You can select up to nine goals for your Campaign.

 

Using the Build tab

The Build tab consists of the following sections, each of which is described subsequently:

Marketing strategy

Use this section to select the Strategy to use in your Campaign. Click the Configure button to launch the Configure Marketing Strategy modal window.See Using a configuration modal window for details on using this window.

In the list of Strategies, the following information is shown for each Strategy:

Upon selecting a Strategy, the following information is shown in the details panel for the selected Strategy:

After selecting a Strategy, use the Strategy results field to select the result component of the Strategy you want to use in your Campaign. Once you select a component, the system displays the Offers that are utilized by the selected component.

Use the delete icon to dissociate the selected Strategy from the Campaign.

Audience

Use this section to select the Segment rule to use as the audience for yourCampaign. You must select an audience for your Campaign if you want to execute it on a schedule or if you have enabled customer validation on event-triggered Campaign execution.

Click the Configure button to launch the Configure Audience modal window. See Using a configuration modal window for details on using this window.

In the list of Segments, the following information is shown for each Segment:

Upon selecting a Segment, the following information is shown in the details panel for the selected Segment:

After selecting a Segment, you can use the delete icon to dissociate the selected Segment from the Campaign.

Engagement

Use this section to enable and configure the modes in which you wish to engage with your customers via this Campaign. Click the Configure button to launch the Configure Engagement modal window.

Enable the desired engagement types (described below) and configure each enabled type.

Engagement Type

Description

Campaign schedule

Configure the desired schedule for Campaign execution. See Configuring scheduling options for details on basic schedule configuration options.

In addition to regular scheduling options, you can also select Minutes or Hourly as an option for the Frequency field (in recurring schedules). In both these options, you can enable the Restrict hours of operation check box to configure daily time intervals during which the Campaign executes (in accordance with the other configurations). In such cases, also select values for Start time and End time.

Enable the Refresh the audience for this Campaign check box to have the system repopulate the referenced Segment rule before executing the Campaign. Choose between the following two refresh options:

  • For each Campaign Run - Select this option to refresh the starting population before each run.
  • Only for the first Campaign Run - Select this option to refresh the starting population just once before the first scheduled run.

Note The refresh audience option is only available when the Campaign audience is a criteria Segment.

Enable the Write Campaign results using a database template check box to directly output the results of scheduled Campaign runs using a configured Database Template rule. In this mode, Offer processing is bypassed. Specify the desired Database Template rule in the Template field.

Note This feature requires the Database Template rule to utilize the Append writing mode. The smart-prompt for the Template field only lists templates that utilize this mode.

Real-time events

This engagement allows configured Real-Time Events to trigger Campaign execution.

Enable the Validate that customer is part of audience check box to only initiate Campaign execution when the customer (associated with the event) is part of the audience configured for this Campaign.

Note If the Strategy (used by this Campaign) contains Segment references (via the Segment Filter shape), the "validate customers" setting is always enforced. In such cases, the customer must be in the Campaign's configured audience.

Use the Listen for events from / to date fields to specify the start (required) and end (optional) date and time values during which the Campaign will respond to Events associated with it. The system ignores all events that it receives outside of this specified time frame.

To associate Events to the Campaign, click the Add events link. This will launch the Configure Engagement modal window and list the available Real-Time Event rules in the system. See Using a configuration modal window for details on using this window.

In the list of Real-Time Events, the following information is shown for each entry:

  • Friendly name / label
  • Validity time period

Upon selecting an entry, the following information is shown in the details panel for the selected Real-Time Event:

  • Friendly name - Click the name to open the Real-Time Event rule.
  • Whether the Event is active, i.e. available to respond to requests
  • List of Geofences that the Event triggers. Click the name to open the Geofence rule.
  • List of Campaigns that utilize this Event. Click the name to open the Campaign.

After selecting an Event, click Add Event in the modal to add the selected Event to the list of Events associated with the Campaign. You can repeat the above process to associate multiple Events with this Campaign.

Use the delete icon next to an associated Event to remove it from the Campaign.

Note Volume Constraints and any Contact Policy limitations specified in the Strategy are not applicable during event-triggered Campaign execution.

Real-time containers

This engagement enables configured Real-Time Containers to trigger the execution of this Campaign.

Use the Listen for container requests from / to date fields to specify the start (required) and end (optional) date and time values during which this Campaign will be valid for the specified Containers. The system ignores all Container requests that it receives outside of this specified time frame.

Note Multiple Campaigns can reference the same Container as long as their active listening dates do not overlap.

To associate Containers to the Campaign, click the Add containers link. This will launch the Configure Engagement modal window and list the available Real-Time Container rules in the system. See Using a configuration modal window for details on using this window.

In the list of Real-Time Containers, the following information is shown for each entry:

  • Friendly name / label
  • When the Container was last updated

Upon selecting an entry, the following information is shown in the details panel for the selected Real-Time Container:

  • Friendly name - Click the name to open the Real-Time Container rule.
  • Whether the Container is active, i.e. available to respond to requests
  • Impression capture setting for the Container
  • Click-through behavior setting for the Container
  • List of Campaigns that utilize this Container. Click the name to open the Campaign.

After selecting a Container, click Add Container in the modal to add the selected Container to the list of Containers associated with the Campaign. You can repeat the above process to associate multiple Containers with this Campaign.

Use the delete icon next to an associated Container to remove it from the Campaign.


Constraint

Use this section to select a Volume Constraint rule to serve as the constraint for your Campaign.

Click the Configure button to launch the Configure Constraint modal window.See Using a configuration modal window for details on using this window.

In the list of entries, the following information is shown for each Volume Constraint:

Upon selecting an entry, the following information is shown in the details panel for the selected Volume Constraint:

After selecting a Volume Constraint, you can use the delete icon to dissociate it from the Campaign.

 

Using the Test tab

Use the Test tab to:

The system provides support for the following Campaign test modes:

Note The above test modes are disabled on Campaigns that utilize the direct output to template feature.

Distribution test

Use distribution tests to test the execution of your Campaign in terms of assessing the Offers made and the Customers targeted. The system furnishes the results of this test in various distribution reports. The system does not make any offers to customers in this form of Campaign testing.

After configuring your Campaign, click the Distribution test link to initiate a distribution test. This link is enabled when the following conditions are met:

The following configuration options are available for the distribution test:

Click Submit to initiate the distribution test. A new row is added for this test in the test runs grid. Refresh the Campaign to view the latest status of this test. Click the test run's row to view more details about the test and its execution progress. See Reviewing run details.

Use the delete icon to remove a distribution test from the Campaign.

Seed test

Use seed tests to simulate Campaign execution with seed customers, i.e. specified in a Seed List. The test executes the referenced Strategy to determine the Offers to make to customers (seeds) and then makes these Offers. Customers will also be able to respond to these Offers. However, the system will not capture these responses in Interaction History.

After configuring your Campaign, click the Seed test link to initiate a seed test. This link is enabled when the following conditions are met:

Use the auto-complete to select an existing Seed List to represent the audience for the Campaign. Use the View all link to open the Seed Lists landing page. Refer to the Seed Lists topic for details on creating and configuring Seed Lists.

Click Submit to initiate the seed test. A new row is added for this test in the test runs grid. Refresh the Campaign to view the latest status of this test. Click the test run's row to view more details about the test and its execution progress. See Reviewing run details.

Use the delete icon to remove a seed test from the Campaign.
