About Application SpecificationsPurpose
Application Specifications are part of the suite of application development tools used for the Direct Capture of Objectives (DCO).
Typically, specifications are defined in an application profile using the Application Profiler, and created by the Application Accelerator . To maximize the potential for reuse, they are defined as atomic specifications. As a project evolves, you can add new or update existing specifications. For more information, see the article

In PRPC releases before V6.2 SP2, these rules were known as Application Use Case rules.
Where Referenced
Specifications are referenced in the following places:
- The Profile Explorer
- Application rules, on the Specifications tab, reference the specifications associated with the application.
- Flows, on the Specifications tab, list the specifications implemented by the flow rule and components in the process.
- When editing a process flow using the Process Modeler, the properties panels for Connectors, Utility shapes, Integrator shapes, Subprocess shapes, and Start shapes include a Specification field that can reference a specification.
- When editing a process flow using Microsoft Visio, the properties panels for the Connector, Utility, Integrator, Spinoff, Subprocess and Start shapes include a Specification field that can reference an Application Specification.
- The Work Types & Specifications gadget on the Application — Overview landing page.
- The Application Document wizard.
Access
Use the Rules Explorer to list all Application Specifications available to you.
Development
To add new specifications, an application and corresponding work type for that application must exist.
Category
Application Specifications are part of the Application Definition category. An Application Specification is an instance of the Rule-Application-UseCase class.
