This is part seven in our Pega Community Hackathon profile series. In this series we profile 2021 Hackathon participants and ask them about their process for creating top-performing applications.
One of our favorite Pega Community Hackathon categories is the Community Choice award. We present this award to the team with the highest-rated submission among voters from our Pega ecosystem. Having a Community Choice award allows both current Pega professionals and newcomers to Pega technologies to have their voices heard during our annual hackathon.
At this year’s Pega Community Hackathon, a team of developers from Verizon (a Pega client) were the recipients of the prestigious Community Choice award. These eight developers, all based in India, created a platform called Employee Connekt to help foster meaningful connections between new hires and experienced employees within an organization.
“Our main goal was to help new employees within an organization get their queries sorted out since they don’t always know whom to contact internally for help when they first start,” said Ragini Anantharaj of the Employee Connekt team. “No organization can succeed without an effective employee onboarding process, and that’s what our app is designed to provide.”
Creating an application is never an easy process, but the Covid-19 pandemic necessitated that all eight team members collaborate remotely on their hackathon submission. The Employee Connekt team decided that using Scrum methodologies and holding a daily standup meeting throughout the hackathon process would be the best way to ensure that they could rely on each other's areas of technical expertise and overcome challenges collectively.
“Everyone has their own views on best practices for implementation so that was a challenge in a team of eight,” explained Employee Connekt’s Jaya Lakshmi. “It’s not always easy to get everyone on the same page but teamwork never fails if everyone is willing to learn from and support one another. That’s why it was so rewarding to see all of this positive feedback from other Pega professionals and receive the Community Choice award.”
