Application Document does not embed Word 97/2003

Summary



A Specification instance with a MS Word 97/2003 attachment (extension = .doc) and has "Use as description?" check box appears as an embedded Word icon in the Application Document instead of embedding the contents of the Word doc.

If the extension is ".docx", the contents of the Word doc is embedded in the Application Document.

Steps to Reproduce



1) Create a Word file with some content and save the Word file as type "Word 97-2003 Document".
2) Create a Specification instance and attach the Word file.
3) Select the checkbox "Use as description?" for the attached Word file.
4) Generate the Application Document.
5) Verify the specification's description is displaying the Word icon.


Root Cause



An issue in the custom application code or rules.

Resolution



Application document Generation was moved to server side from Pega 7.1.8 version onwards.

From then only docx file content is shown and generated documented is also docx.

rior to that, generation was client side and generated file was doc file, at that time doc description text is shown in the document.
As user has moved to higher version of document generation, this does not support to read doc files.
docx files are only handled for parsing.
