AutoComplete for large data source hangs in Internet Explorer 8

SA-16041

Summary

An AutoComplete control in Pega 7.1.7 that references a data source with over 250,000 records hangs if the user changes the selection from the list without waiting for the selection.

And, occasionally, if an item is selected, the wrong data displays on the screen. This behavior occurs with Internet Explorer 8; it does not occur in later versions of Internet Explorer.

Error Messages

Not Applicable

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create an AutoComplete control in your application.
2. Use a data source from a table with more than 250K records.
3. Use Internet Explorer 8 to see the problem in the application.

Root Cause

A defect in Pegasystems’ code or rules

Internet Explorer 8 does not perform as efficiently as later versions of the browser. Data sources with a high volume of records create a larger browser memory footprint thereby resulting is slowness and stalls.
The issue with the incorrect data display when an option in the AutoComplete control is selected is a Pega defect.

Resolution

Use of latest browsers, for example Internet Explorer 11, Firefox, or Chrome.
Apply HFix-20950 to fix the issue with the incorrect data display when an option in the AutoComplete control is selected.
