Barcode scanner doesn't work as expected on mobile

Summary



 User implemented  Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) scan using Pega Barcode or QR code scan action in UI.

This feature works fine for QR codes. But when it comes to Code 39 bar codes, user noticed below issues:

 

1. Unable to read the barcode (Application stays in the camera screen without taking any readings)
2. Reads the barcode and loads random numeric numbers in to VIN field.


Around 40% of the time users able to ready the barcode successfully.

Steps to Reproduce



1) Add Barcode or QR code action to the list of actions for a UI event.
2) Scan a VIN number (barcode format) using a handheld iOS device's camera.


Root Cause



Developer was using the Pega 7 app available on the appstore which currently has hybrid client version 6.21.1.0.

A newer version of hybrid client resolves the issue.

Resolution



Build a custom mobile app which would get Hybrid Client version 6.21.2.6 where the reported issue is fixed.
