Blank PDF is generated after upgrade to Pega 7.1.7

SA-11364

Summary

User upgraded from PRPC 6.1 with CPM 6.1 to Pega 7.1.7 with CPM 7.1.3. The upgrade completed successfully. However, PDFs with a single blank page are generated whereas the same case in PRPC 6.1 generates multi-page PDF, with content, correctly.

In both the cases the HTML contains missing end tags at multiple places.

Error Messages

Not Applicable

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create HTMLs with atleast one missing TABLE tag enclosing <TR> tags in PRPC 6.1.
2. Verify that PDF is generated.
3. Upgrade to Pega 7.1.7.
4. Observe that blank PDF is generated.

Root Cause

The root cause of this problem is in a third-party product.

The pd4ml methods are used to directly generate PDF, instead of using HTMLToPDF activity or PDFUtils methods. pd4ml is unable to generate PDF when the HTML is malformed.

This works fine when malformed HTML is sourced  to OOTB HTMLToPDF.

Resolution

Use OOTB HTMLToPDF activity or correct the malformed HTML rules.
