A flow migrated to 6.3sp1 isn't opening in development portal

SA-274

Summary

After upgrading PRPC from 5.x to 6.3 SP1 developers are unable to open a flow rule that was migrated. The rule form opens partially and displays "Creating viewer..." But this message doesn't go away and IE errors appear on the page.

Error Messages

IE Errors:

Message: 'pega.rf.formProxy.getPRXML().documentElement' is null or not an object

and

Message: 'this.getPRXML().documentElement' is null or not an object

Steps to Reproduce

A flow rule opens as expected in PRPC 5.x but after migrating to 6.3 SP1, the rule form displays "Creating viewer..." which doesn't go away, and the above mentioned IE errors are seen.

Root Cause

Special characters in use in fields on the History tab of the rule are the root cause for the issue.

Resolution

This issue is resolved through the following local change:

Review the working PRPC 5.x version of the flow rule and remove any special characters (< , > , etc.) in use on the History tab,  save the rule, then import this new version into the 6.3 SP1 instance.
