JAWS reads Sort order twice when focus is on the Sort icon

SA-54850

Summary

JAWS reads the Sort order twice when:
  1. Sort icon is engaged (pressing Enter (or) clicking it).
  2. Focus is returned to the Sort icon (using the Shift + Tab keys) from the Filter icon.

Error Messages

Not Applicable

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Enable PegaWAI.
  2. Listen to any grid after sorting the column using Internet Explore 11 browser and JAWS18.

Root Cause

A <span> is generated for the Sort icon and enclosed in a <div> for the column header. This associates the Sort icon to the column. Both the <span> and <div> elements have a tabindex attribute set to receive focus. However, in the below mentioned scenarios, JAWS reads both the parent and the child content though focus is on the sort <span>.
  1. Sort icon is engaged (by pressing Enter (or) clicking it) such that the grid is reloaded.
  2. Focus is returned to the Sort icon (using the Shift + Tab keys) from the Filter icon.

Resolution

An enhancement request, FDBK-256862, has been created for consideration by Pega Product Management.
