Unable to open an Excel Report with xlsx format



Error when opening an Excel Report of xlsx format.

Error Messages

Excel cannot open the file ‘XXXX.xlsx’ because the file format or file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Configure the list view and enable Export to Excel option.
  2. Run the agent. The agent runs the list view (use Excel format of xlsx) and exports the data to Excel. It also sends a mail of the generated Excel report.
  3. Open the Excel file.

Root Cause

PRPC 6.2 SP2 does not support the xlsx format.


When using PRPC 6.2 SP2, xls format must be used while exporting to Excel.

The xlsx format is supported from Pega 7.3.
