Unable to receive response from Connect-REST

Summary
A HTTPS URL is not working from a Connect-REST integration. Error is displayed at runtime:
Error Messages
javax.net.ssl.SSLPeerUnverifiedException: peer not authenticated
Steps to Reproduce
Create a Connect-REST record and connect to a site using HTTPS.
Root Cause
The root cause of this problem is defect/misconfiguration in the operating environment.
Resolution
This issue is resolved by updating authentication profile to use NTLM.
