Unable to use Excel to edit decision tables

SA-23901

Summary

When a user tries to edit a decision table in Excel, Excel opens but an error appears on the screen.  The error can be dismissed and the edit can be performed, but the decision table throws additional errors, when attempting to save the ruleform and the columns become skewed.

Error Messages

"Switching to NOTEPAD.EXE. There was an error launching application associated with '.xls' file type. To troubleshoot, find any file of this type using 'File Explorer', right-click, make 'open' exists in the popup menu, select it, check that your associated editor works cleanly."

"You must specify a property for this column's comparisons"

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open a decision table.
  2. Click "Edit in Excel."

Root Cause

Defects in Pegasystems’ code or rules that result in the error pop-up when editing in excel, and in columns being moved from the Action area to the Conditions area.

Resolution

This issue is scheduled to be resolved in update release Pega 7.2.1.
