Uploaded Word document using Connect-File does not open properly

Summary



When user uploads a Word document using Connect-File rules, the document does not open correctly.

Instead, it shows an encoding selector dialog box in Word and cannot find the correct encoding, making the document unusable.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Upload File using "Browse".
  2. Drop the folder in the shared folder using a Connect -File rule.
  3. Try to open the file from the shared folder.


Root Cause



An issue in the custom application code or rules is identified as root cause of the issue.

The "Enable BOM" option was checked on the Connect-File rule due to which
Byte Order Mark (BOM) characters were getting appended to the uploaded word file.

Resolution



Perform the following local-change: 

​Uncheck "Enable BOM" option on Connect-File rule form.
