User Session Freeze

SA-8295

Summary

You have frequent "freezes" of the Application.  Randomly, and not necessarily restricted to one place in the application, you will see a busy indicator which never goes away.  You are unable to proceed with the flow at this point.

Error Messages

Not Applicable

Steps to Reproduce

Any operation which can post a busy indicator on the screen.

Root Cause

The root cause of this problem is a defect/misconfiguration in the operating environment combined with a bug in IE as well as a bug in PRPC. The root causes are:
  • Network latency and/or other issues result in network errors which are reported back to the browser.
  • For some errors, IE has a bug which causes it to mis-handle some of these errors, resulting in additonal wait times and eventual HTTP failure status. For other errors, the HTTP errors are passed back to the browser immediately.
  • There is a defect in the product and PRPC does not proerly handle the HTTP error response. The busy indicator never turns off, and processing is suspended permanently.

Resolution

This issue is resolved through the following Local-change: Contact GCS for a Local-change that will fix the mishandling by PRPC of the HTTP error.  With the change in place, PRPC will resend the request based upon the assumption that most HTTP errors are caused by transient network problems.  If the retry still fails, then PRPC will turn off the busy indicator and pop-up an alert to the end user indicating that a network problem has just occurred, and that the command should be repeated.
